This is a poster I made for Bevrijdingsfestival Overijssel 2014, a Dutch festival where artist perform to memorialize the Dutch Liberation Day. I made a poster for the band Knarsetand that performed at this festival. Knarsetand is a band that has a lot of energy and a very unique sound, mixing genres like drum ‘n’ bass, gypsy, reggae, dubstep, ska and pop all into one song. I wanted to translate this energy though my poster. The best way for me to do this was to literally visualize the sound of Knarsetand and put them on my poster. I was immediately reminded of Chromesthesia, a form of synesthesia in which a person can connect certain sounds to certain colors and shapes. I visualized this by using the colors that Knarsetand has in their visual identity, and the basic geometry shapes that most people with Chromesthesia see.
